Inside, the townhouse has three bedrooms and three baths for up to six, so each family can claim its own bathroom. A fireplace with a ready stack of firewood warms the living room, board games wait for a snowy night, and the kitchen is stocked well enough for big breakfasts, waffle maker included.

Ski mornings start on foot. The base lodge at Windham Mountain is about a five-minute walk, and the magic carpet is closer still. Afterward, the heated indoor pool and hot tub are a two-minute stroll away, and in summer the tennis and basketball courts lie just past the grass behind the house.

On a day off the mountain, the town of Windham is a short drive for dinner or takeout, and the Windham Path makes for an easy, unhurried walk. In October the slopes blaze with color, with hiking and wine tasting nearby to fill the afternoon before the grill heats up for supper.
