At dawn the sun climbs over the Hudson River, catching the Rhinecliff bridge in the distance while deer graze on the lawn behind the house. You stand there with a Nespresso in hand and watch the water turn from silver to gold.

Inside, the renovated rooms feel modern and warm at once, with careful finishes in every corner and a deep sofa that invites long afternoons. Two spacious bedrooms and two and a half baths sleep four, and the kitchen, with its induction range, French press and baking sheets, makes dinner a pleasure. On cool evenings, the wood-burning fireplace nook glows.

A walk-out deck spans the whole back of the house, and below it a patio, a tended garden and open green grass lead you outdoors. Light the grill for supper, eat at the outdoor table, and let the river fade to evening blue.

Kingston is about ten minutes away for restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores, and Saugerties is just as close. Rhinebeck is a short drive across the river, Woodstock about twenty minutes, and Phoenicia and Hudson within forty, with the Amtrak station at Rhinecliff an easy drive. Then you come home as the light goes soft over the water.
