Snow drifts down past the string lights as you climb out of the barrel sauna and sink into the hot tub, steam curling into the dark trees. Overhead, the stars come out thick and bright.

Inside, the Scandinavian-modern A-frame opens up under natural wood ceilings, with big windows full of forest light and a leather sofa beside the electric stove fireplace. The open kitchen is stocked right down to the coffee, and three bedrooms with two baths sleep six, including a bunk room with its own TV for the kids. Upstairs, skylights frame the night sky above the beds.

Out back, two private wooded acres hold a custom cast iron cold plunge, a fire pit ringed by Adirondack chairs, and room for cornhole, bocce and a disc golf hole. Hummingbirds and bees work the big rhododendron outside the living room window, and frogs turn up in the grass.

Hunter Mountain and Windham are about ten miles away for skiing, with trails and waterfalls like Kaaterskill Falls within easy reach. In Prattsville, the grocery store is about seven minutes up the road, and the locals are happy to point you somewhere good. Save one afternoon for a long lunch at the Phoenicia Diner.
