At sunrise the cliffs of the Gunks catch the first light, and the colors drift across the bluffs while you stand at the big windows with coffee in hand. Below the ridge, farms and vineyards spread out in every direction. Morning sun pours in through the skylights.

Inside, three bedrooms and two baths sleep six, with a large kitchen ready for family-style dinners and an extra long dining table that holds a feast or a jigsaw puzzle. Shelves of interesting books, a yoga room, and art throughout give the rooms their character. On a cold evening the gas fireplace keeps the living space warm.

Outside, the gardens open onto grass, a hammock, and a fire pit for summer nights when fireflies flicker over the fields. The hot tub is just as good with snow falling. Horses and cows graze nearby, and a winery is right next door.

Gardiner has its own restaurants and breweries, and New Paltz is a short drive for shopping and dinner. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk are close for hiking and climbing, and in fall the local orchards are open for apple picking. Come home with a bottle from a nearby cidery and watch the ridge go dark.
