Shawangunk Chalet

About this property

Morning light floods the tall windows of the main bedroom in Gardiner, and the pale cliffs of the Gunks ridge fill the glass before you have reached for coffee. The upstairs suite is generous and calm. A jacuzzi tub big enough for two waits down the hall.

Five bedrooms and two baths sleep up to 16, and the great room holds everyone at once on a huge red sofa, warmed by the glow of a gas fireplace. The open kitchen has a long table for shared dinners. On the lower level, a game room with ping pong, Ms. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat II keeps every age happily busy.

Out back, a fenced yard spreads into a patio with a grill and outdoor dining. After dark the fire pit crackles under a wide country sky, and the quiet out here runs deep.

A five-minute walk brings you to the tasting room at the vineyard next door. Minnewaska State Park and the trails near Mohonk Mountain House are close by, Awosta Falls makes an easy hike, and Main Street in New Paltz is about fifteen minutes away. On the drive home, Tuthilltown Distillery pours a glass, and dinner at Mountain Brauhaus is waiting.
