Mountaintop Farmhouse

About this property

Evening turns cool on the mountain, so the fire pit is lit, the s'mores come out, and the Hudson Valley goes soft and blue below the bluff. The farmhouse dates to 1865, in the Cragsmoor Historic District, with its old character intact and modern comforts woven through.

Six bedrooms and three baths sleep sixteen, and the finished attic turns into a kingdom for kids. The kitchen is the heart of the house, stocked with every gadget, spice, and labeled shelf a big group could want, its bay window framing the ridge. Dinner moves to a nine-foot table under candle-lit chandeliers, looking out over the meadow.

After dark, the wood-burning fireplace crackles beside an upright piano and a big projection screen. Mornings start with coffee in the sun on the southern deck, while the grassy yard gives kids and dogs room to run.

Pine Bush, about ten minutes down the mountain, covers groceries, wine, and pizza on the way up. From the house, a short walk through the quiet hamlet brings you to the old Stone Church and its lookout across the valley. Sam's Point Preserve on the Shawangunk Ridge is minutes away, so set out early and follow the trail to where the cliffs fall away into open sky.
