The Stony Clove Suite has one bedroom and one bath for two, with a king bed you sink into and a fireplace for cozy evenings. The kitchen has a gas stove, a full-size fridge, and olive oil and tea waiting. In the bathroom, a large shower lined in subway tile stands over a natural stone mosaic floor, and small touches turn up everywhere, from bug spray to board games.

Outside, the grounds run down to the water. Afternoons belong to the heated saltwater pool and its sun loungers, and evenings to Adirondack chairs around a fire pit as the light fades over the stream. Little huts by the garden give you a quiet corner, and on clear nights the sky fills with stars.

Phoenicia's Main Street is a few minutes away, with shops to wander and the Phoenicia Diner and Peekamoose for a meal. Trails start close by, and Woodstock is about a 20-minute drive. Back at the suite, the creek keeps murmuring through the dark.
