Morning light catches the snow outside, and within minutes you are on your skis and gliding down a Hunter Mountain trail, car keys forgotten in a drawer. A footbridge just past the rear deck links the house to green circle runs, the first lift, and the base lodges, so breakfast and the chairlift are the same easy walk.

Inside, three bedrooms and two and a half baths sleep six, and the extra bathrooms keep busy mornings calm. Egyptian cotton Donna Karan linens dress the beds, a pellet stove takes the chill off after the last run, and a stack of board games fills the evenings. When work follows you, a dedicated workspace closes off behind its own door.

Summer turns the mountain green. At Rip Van Winkle lake you can paddle board, play frisbee golf or beach volleyball, and follow the huckleberry trail, then come back for dinner on the patio with views across the valley.

For a night out, Hunter Mountain Brewery and Prospect Restaurant are close by, and Tannersville and Saugerties are within reach by car. Finish with a tasting at The Vineyard at Windham or Urban Wine Cellars, then drive home through the cool mountain air.
