Coffee and restaurants are close in Athens, and Hudson is about 20 minutes across the river, with a good lunch and a library the kids will love. Breweries and wineries dot the area, and Kaaterskill Falls is roughly a 40-minute drive, a fine morning before an afternoon back on the water.
