The first swim of the day is a jump off the dock into clear, deep water, the wide cove calm around you and a paddle board waiting at the shore for later. Out here the lake sets the schedule.

Inside, the house is large and handsomely decorated, with four bedrooms and three baths that sleep eight and lake views from the rooms where you gather. The kitchen has a gas stove, a double oven, and every spice and utensil you might reach for, and the big dining table holds everyone at once. On cooler nights, the wood-burning fireplace warms a cozy living room stacked with board games.

Kayaks, a canoe, and a pile of floating tubes make the coves yours to explore, with a line to drop for fish along the way. A few minutes' stroll brings you to a sandy community beach, a pool, a playground, and tennis courts. After dark, the hot tub steams under the stars while s'mores toast over the fire pit.

When you do leave the water, Athens, Hudson, and Catskill are a short drive away for restaurants and shopping. Back on the deck at dusk, the light turns gold across the lake.
