Inside, four bedrooms and two baths sleep eight, with one bedroom on the main floor and three upstairs. The kitchen is the heart of it, big and stocked down to the spices and oils, and it opens straight to the deck so whoever is cooking stays in the conversation. Two living rooms, a great room, and two dining areas give everyone space, and on cold nights the fireplace warms the room.

Mornings start with coffee on the tiered deck, sometimes with deer crossing the lawn. By afternoon the above-ground pool and its lounge chairs fill up, and games of bocce, badminton, and volleyball spread across a lawn big enough for a soccer game. A screened gazebo and a heat lamp keep you outside when the air turns cool.

Downtown Saugerties is about ten minutes away, with Woodstock and Kingston both a short drive. North South Lake has swimming and paddleboards, the HITS horse show grounds are close, and nearby you can pick apples at an orchard or wander the strange underground passages of a sculpture garden.
