Saugerties is about ten minutes away, with pastries at Bread Alone just minutes down the road, and Woodstock and Kingston close by. Swim at the end of the Kaaterskill Falls trail, pick cherries at Rose Hill Farms, or ski Hunter Mountain in winter, under an hour's drive. Then stop at Stewart's for ice cream on the way back.
