Four bedrooms and two baths sleep eight, including a large bedroom and bath on the ground floor and an upstairs room with two little beds for kids. Separate thermostats keep each part of the house just right, and room-darkening shades make for long, deep sleep.

Outside, a patio overlooks the woods, a fine spot for breakfast in the open air. Early walks along the country road feel like wandering through forest, and in autumn the trees put on a blazing show. Winter can bring a storybook snowfall.

Saugerties and Woodstock are each about ten minutes away, with good restaurants, shops, and a lively, funky streak in Woodstock. Opus 40, the sculpted artist homestead, is roughly a mile down the road, and Hunter Mountain is about twenty minutes off for skiing. For little ones, Plattekill Falls makes a gentle waterfall outing, and at dusk you drive back into the stillness of the trees.
