The fenced backyard feels private and green, with sun loungers, an umbrella and a heap of floaties beside the warm water. Grill dinner overlooking the yard, then sink into the hot tub as the air cools. After dark, chairs circle the fire pit under the stars, and at sunset a family of deer sometimes wanders out of the trees.

Woodstock is about ten minutes away for breakfast from The Mud Club and an afternoon of browsing shops, and Saugerties, around fifteen, has easy dinners and coffee. In winter, Hunter Mountain is roughly half an hour off, close enough for a full day on the slopes and a cozy evening back in the quiet woods.
