Private Estate

About this property

In Highland, the pizza oven is roaring, string lights glow above the long table, and the trumpet vine on the pergola holds the last warmth of the evening. Past the stone walls, the pond goes still as dusk falls over six acres of lawn and boulders.

Inside, the kitchen, dining room and great room open into one bright space, with a six-burner gas range and a broad quartzite island that keeps whoever is cooking in the conversation. Four bedrooms and two and a half baths sleep twelve, including a ground-floor bedroom with its own bath. Downstairs, a game room holds ping pong, billiards and foosball for rainy afternoons.

Mornings start with coffee on the patio, then the heated pool until lunch. There is a basketball court, a soccer net, a hammock strung in the shade, and an herb and vegetable garden to raid for dinner. After dark, s'mores and stars take over around the fire pit.

DuBois Farms is close by for pumpkin picking, and apple picking and local beer on a farm are about five minutes away. The walk over the Hudson is near, and Poughkeepsie is a quick drive for dinner, the fall foliage turning the ride into its own small outing.
