Early light finds the mountain rising beyond the pond in Hensonville, and steam drifts off your shoulders as you step out of the barrel sauna into the cold Catskills air. Inside, the 1890s farmhouse is still asleep.

The house sleeps 16 across eight bedrooms and three and a half baths, each room dressed in its own mix of art, antiques and 1970s flourishes. Evenings gather in the great room, where a massive wood-burning fireplace crackles beside a bar for mixing martinis, a record player and stacks of vinyl. A dining table long enough for everyone waits next to a kitchen stocked for feasts.

Outside, seven acres of lawn roll toward the pond, with hammocks strung near a little creek and grills set beside the fire pit under string lights for dinners outdoors. After dark, a wooded trail leads to a clearing where the stars crowd the sky. Frogs and crickets fill the quiet.

Hunter Mountain is about ten minutes away and Windham Mountain about fifteen, so winter mornings start on the slopes. In summer, nearby lakes about twenty minutes off are there for a swim after a hike, and Hudson, about half an hour away, rewards a long afternoon of shops and dinner.
