Cat Lover's Getaway

About this property

Morning coffee on the screened porch in the Kerhonkson woods comes with an audience, hummingbirds working the feeders a few feet away while the trees drip from last night's rain. A deer may step out of the woods. The house is all yours, shared only with two affectionate cats who treat any free lap as an invitation.

Downstairs, a bright open kitchen stocked with spices and cast iron flows into a dining table made from salvaged bowling alley wood and a living room with a gas fireplace for cold evenings. Plants climb toward every window. A staircase built from the same old lanes leads up to two big bedrooms under cathedral ceilings, sharing one bath with heated floors, and the house sleeps 8.

Afternoons drift between the hammock on the porch and the grill out back, with dinner served to the sound of the woods. In winter, snow turns the yard white and silent. At dusk you might catch wild turkeys flapping up into the big tree out front to roost.

Minnewaska is under ten minutes away, the Gunks and Mohonk close behind, and the Ashokan Reservoir about fifteen. Spend a day on the trails, stop at the orchards and farms, or linger over lunch in New Paltz, then drive home through the trees to a sky full of stars.
