Morning light pours through the floor-to-ceiling windows of this Lanesville kitchen, and across the valley the trails of Hunter Mountain run white down the slope. On a snowy weekend you can watch skiers carve their way down over a first cup of coffee.

Inside, the house unfolds over several levels, with five bedrooms and four baths for up to ten, including a lofted bedroom and bunk rooms the kids will claim first. Two separate living rooms let the grown-ups talk by the wood-burning fireplace while the younger crowd heads downstairs to the pool table, arcade games and foosball. The kitchen is big and well stocked, with a long dining table and plenty of seats along the bar.

Outside, the large yard holds a trampoline, a basketball court and a fire pit, and dinner on the patio stretches easily into evening. Later, the private hot tub steams under a sky dark enough to show a full spread of stars.

Hunter Mountain is about five minutes away and Windham roughly fifteen, so first chair is an easy reach. In warmer months, the trail to Kaaterskill Falls makes a fine day out, and local restaurants wait a short drive down the hill.
