Hummingbirds work the plantings around the deck while you float in the clear pool, a deer steps out of the trees, and by evening the only sound is crickets. The rest of the day can wait.

Upstairs, the house opens into one bright floor of new wood, original art and fresh flowers, with three bedrooms and three baths for up to six. The kitchen is subway tile and marble, a six-burner gas stove and All Clad pans, with dinner service for twelve at the glass table. In winter, the wood-burning stove warms the living room.

Outside, ten acres of rolling, wooded land hold benches and Adirondack chairs in quiet corners, a shaded cabana, and a horse paddock next door. Morning sun pours through the front windows with your coffee. After dark, the hot tub looks into the woods, and an upper deck with a fire pit waits for s'mores.

Walk to the Golden Russet General Store for breakfast and the morning paper, or to Slow Fox Farm Brewery for a cold one. Omega Institute is half a mile down the road, and Rhinebeck and Red Hook are 15 minutes away for shops and dinner. Back at the house, the gas grill heats while the stars come out over the open land.
