Lake House

About this property

In Putnam Valley, evening light turns Lake Oscawana gold as the sun slides behind the mountains, and from the patio you can follow it all the way down. Somewhere along the shore, a bullfrog starts his nightly song.

Inside, the renovated house has three bedrooms and two baths for up to eight, with a high-ceilinged family room and a kitchen and dining area that face the water. A second living room gives you a quiet corner to read while others settle in with board games or the game console. The kitchen is stocked down to the baking supplies, and a fireplace warms the cooler nights.

Out back, a level, fenced lawn runs down to a dock on the lake. Kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats and pre-strung fishing rods are all waiting, and the kids get a big trampoline of their own. After dark, the fire pit is ready for s'mores.

Hiking trails are a short drive away, and Cold Spring and Peekskill are close by for an afternoon of wandering and a dinner out. Beacon is about 25 minutes off. Closer still, the deli and pizza market three minutes away handles a lazy lunch you can carry back to the water.
