Five bedrooms and three baths sleep 10, and the rooms are generous, several lit by bay windows. Upstairs, the main bedroom has windows on three sides and mountain views in winter, and the historic bathroom holds a clawfoot tub. At night everyone gathers in the double-height living room for board games and movies on the sofas.

Mornings begin in a kitchen stocked for real cooking, with plenty of coffee gear. Out back, the deck has room for everyone, the grill waits, and a hammock and tree swing hang over a grassy, wooded lot where wild turkeys and groundhogs wander through.

Walk to the cafes, galleries, antique shops and bars of Warren Street, with the Amtrak station seven blocks off and Farmer and Sons close by for a meal. In winter, Catamount is 27 minutes away and Windham about 40, and every evening ends with a short stroll back from dinner in town.
