Inside, the renovated 1940s house is all warm wood and Japanese calm, with handmade ceramics on the shelves, paper lanterns, and a round window that frames the water like a porthole. Lake light reaches the living room, the kitchen, and the single bedroom, where a king bed holds the two people the home sleeps. The kitchen is small but properly equipped, and the pottery makes even soup feel like an occasion.

In summer the motor-free lake is yours to paddle, with kayaks and a canoe at the water's edge and bass waiting for a line cast off the dock. Afternoons drift between the tree swing, a swim from shore, and the picnic table beside the gas grill. After dark, the fire pit glows under the stars.

Shopping, restaurants, and good hiking trails are about 20 minutes away, and Port Jervis and Milford, PA are close enough for an easy afternoon. Linger over lunch at Cafe Wren in Milford, then drive back in time to watch the lake go pink at sunset.
