Country House

About this property

Steam lifts off the cedar hot tub as dusk settles over a fenced backyard in High Falls, the trees going dark and the first stars showing overhead. Behind you, lamplight warms a house full of plants, stained glass and quirky, handmade character.

The kitchen is stocked for real cooking, with sharp knives, a full spice rack and a cast iron skillet, and the dining room fills with sunlight and greenery. Drop a record on the record player while dinner simmers, then carry plates out to the big table on the deck. Three bedrooms and two baths sleep six, and the upstairs suite hides a clawfoot tub overlooking the garden and a small meditation nook.

Mornings mean coffee outside, birdsong from the trees and maybe a deer at the edge of the lawn. A dog can run free inside the fence while you claim the hammock, and after dark the fire pit is ready for s'mores.

Trailheads and swimming holes at Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park are 5 to 15 minutes away, and the climbing at West Trapps in the Gunks is about 13 minutes. Later, wander New Paltz, Rosendale or Stone Ridge, each roughly 10 minutes off, for dinner and antiques, then stop for cider at Westwind Orchard as the afternoon light turns gold.
