1834 Farm House

About this property

Steam lifts off the hot tub on the upper deck as the stars come out over the treetops, and somewhere below, Clove Creek keeps up its rush through the dark. The farmhouse dates to 1834, and every corner of it feels lived in and loved.

Inside, art, antiques and color cover the walls, with a library of books and films and a parlor fireplace behind heavy drapes. The attached barn is the heart of the house. Throw open its double doors to the wildflower garden, gather at the long rustic table, and cook in a country kitchen stocked for a feast. Six bedrooms and two baths sleep up to 16.

Mornings start at the coop, where the hens leave fresh eggs for breakfast. A short walk through the woods brings you to a swimming hole below a waterfall, cold and clear on a summer afternoon, and a quiet pond lies just behind the house. Back in the yard, a tire swing and a hammock wait beneath the tulip trees.

Cold Spring's antique shops and restaurants are a quick drive away, with Beacon about fifteen minutes in the other direction and Dia Beacon there for an afternoon of art. Hike Storm King State Park, then come home to s'mores around the fire pit while the garden goes dark.
