Late afternoon light slants across the big green field while you float in the heated saltwater pool, the red barn glowing at the edge of the lawn. Summer here moves at that pace.

Inside, the old farmhouse pairs country character with a renovated kitchen stocked for real cooking, down to an espresso machine for lazy mornings. Meals land on a long farmhouse table, and on cold nights the wood stove keeps the living room warm. Five bedrooms and two and a half baths sleep ten, and up in the attic a playroom full of toys, books and games keeps the kids busy.

Outdoors, the fenced yard gives children and dogs room to roam, with a big trampoline and a basketball hoop by the barn. Evenings mean s'mores around the fire pit, or a glass of wine on the deck as the sun goes down over the field.

Downtown Saugerties is a few minutes away for a good breakfast, the farmers market and dinner at Anarella's, and the HITS show grounds are close by. Woodstock and Kingston make easy day trips, and Hunter Mountain is about half an hour off. On a winter afternoon, walk out to the Saugerties Lighthouse and watch the ice on the Hudson.
