About this property

Snow drifts past the big upstairs windows of this Staatsburg house while a record spins and the kettle heats for another pot of coffee. The house is a 1970s modern design, full of light and warmth, with a floating staircase rising between its levels.

Three bedrooms and two baths sleep six, and the open living room gathers everyone around well-chosen furniture, candlelight and a wood-burning stove. Downstairs, a second lounge has its own fire and a big screen for movie nights. The kitchen is stocked for real cooking, with spices, sharp knives and wine glasses ready for a long dinner at the big table.

Mornings belong to the half-covered back deck, coffee in hand, looking over a green yard that runs into the woods, where a deer may wander through. In summer, grill dinner, light the fire pit, stretch out in the hammock or rinse off in the outdoor shower under the trees.

Rhinebeck's boutiques, bookshops and restaurants are about ten minutes away, and Hyde Park and the FDR house are close too. A farm brewery is a short walk up the street. Nearer still, the trails at Mills Mansion state park follow the Hudson, with wide river views opening at every turn.
