Gorgeous Getaway

About this property

Late in the day you float in the pool with sun on the water, gardens spilling color around its edge and woods closing in on every side. After dark, the only sound is the forest.

The yellow 1910 farmhouse keeps its country character, with window seats for reading and five bedrooms and two and a half baths that sleep 16. The sunlit kitchen centers on a six-burner Viking stove with a griddle, and its shelves of spices and cookware make a long group dinner easy. Upstairs, the primary bedroom opens to a private deck, and its bath holds a clawfoot tub plus a steam shower.

Out back, a walking labyrinth winds toward the hot tub, and the sauna stands ready across the lawn for cool mornings. In the evening the cabana's stone fireplace glows for s'mores and a glass of wine, the grill close at hand, while stars come out thick above the trees.

Mornings start with a short walk to a bakery for coffee and bread. Cold Spring is about ten minutes away, Beacon has the Dia Museum and its galleries, and the Garrison train station, a few minutes off, reaches Grand Central in a little over an hour. Before any train, linger over a meal at Dolly's beside the station, watching the afternoon go gold.
